Moving from the 7 July 2025 Brussels, meeting where the 1st stakeholders meeting on "Integrating Ecotoxicity in Early stage Drug development" took place, OneHealthdrugs COST Action is now organizing the 2nd stakeholder meeting.
The 1st meeting joined OneHealthdrugs COST Action members, Pharma company and regulatory experts, United Nations representatives and environmental science experts. The Team after 1 Day discussion reached an agreements and promoted the following action points:
Key strategic shifts identified:
· From Passive to Active: We must transform pharmacovigilance from passive reporting to active, science-based monitoring to trace and mitigate pollution sources effectively.
· Prioritizing Alternatives: It is time to champion biological controls and vaccines over the intensive, often oversight-free use of chemical treatments by the agricultural sector (pesticides).
· Closing the Education Gap: Environmental impact and drug resistance markers must become core pillars of European veterinary curricula.
· Updating the Playbook: We are calling for modern technologies and ecotoxicity data to be integrated into OECD and regulatory guidelines from the earliest stages of drug development.
- Considering sustainability as an health strategy. Let’s build a pharmaceutical pipeline that protects both the patient and the planet.
