Imaging and Biosensor Strategies in Drug Discovery for Vector-Borne Diseases - online workshop
ON LINE workshop 2025-09-26 14:00:00 - 17:00:00 CET
Invitation
We are pleased to announce the upcoming online event, "Imaging and biosensor strategies in drug discovery for Vector-Borne Diseases," scheduled for September 26, 2025. This meeting, chaired by Theodora Calogeropoulou and Guy Caljon, will bring together experts to explore the latest advancements in combating vector-borne diseases. Within Onehealthdrugs we strive to discover a new generation of drugs against vector-borne diseases that exhibit a minimal impact on the environment. Gaining a better understanding of the drug target, target engagement, subcellullar localization and drug-induced target and off-target effects benefits improved assay design, contributing to a better understanding of the mechanism of action of lead compounds and the identification of more selective therapeutic candidates. The workshop aims to introduce a range of chemical and genetic strategies to support such drug discovery and incorporate methodologies to characterise the drug target and the effect of target engagement within the cell. Several chemical strategies including bioconjugation with fluorescent probes exist where the bioactive molecule is foreseen of a tractable marker for studying target interaction. In addition, highly effective genetic engineering approaches have found their way into the field of parasitology. As a result, drug targets can be efficiently modified with fluorescent markers to detect their subcellular localization and the in situ effects of drug exposure. Using biosensor cell lines, multiplexed detection of drug-induced changes in the metabolism (metabolites or enzymatic activities) can be monitored in high throughput using biochemical, high-content microscopic or flow cytometric approaches. Outcome: In this online workshop we will delve into imaging and biosensor approaches, technologies and tools with potential application in antiparasitic drug discovery, that will in turn provide inspiration for the structural biologists, medicinal chemists, pharmacologists and parasitologists active in vector-borne diseases. This event is a fantastic opportunity for researchers, students, and professionals to engage with the latest interdisciplinary strategies in drug discovery. ------------- The event registration requires two steps : 1) create an e-COST account in thewww.cost.euand 2) register here:
