WG4, Workshop 1 - 03/04/2023

Drugs for human and animal vector-borne diseases are scarce. Emerging environmental problems in pharmaceutical use/manufacturing increase attention. Cooperation is needed among different expertise to develop new drugs in a sustainable way. OneHealthdrugs aims at discovering optimized drugs and is platform using synergies among multidisciplinary stakeholders within academies, SMEs, industries, governments.

In WG4, knowledge in drug design and in environmental impact will be integrated to provide a sharable guideline-like document. Assessing environmental risks is important in relation to societal benefits. With this workshop, environmental risks of pharmaceuticals are classified, taking into account regulatory requirements. Some mitigation measures will be presented and discussed, and the presentation of a case study on the use of antiparasitics for malaria vector control brings together the areas of human/animal health and environmental protection. This workshop is following WG3-WS1 - "Ecotoxicology in product development and environmental impact assessment"” held on 24th of March and represents a second event focused on the drugs specific impact.
